And then they undercut the small businesses that pioneered their brands by selling direct to their customers online at a discount. We’ve all seen endless examples of this kind of bullshit. It’s as if the entire world has spiraled out of control. Everyone is zombied out at a time when we should be paying attention. We can’t wait any longer for someone else to fix this mess, so we decided, “fuck it, let’s do it ourselves.” We can’t allow these conglomerates to destroy our industry, health, and planet. When I opened my first salon at 29, I remember all the product reps from big distributors coming to pay us visits. At that time, there were zero alternatives to the huge plastic bottles with insane percentages of perfumes that we, as professionals, had to choose from. Each distributor had a few big brands, and they were all exactly the same from my perspective.
Over the years, I developed strong sensitivities to these products, and, by no coincidence, multiple autoimmune conditions. I’m not alone, either, many people develop adverse reactions to styling product use. I’ve come to recognize just how disruptive synthetic fragrance alone can be to our well-being!
After I was finally over what my industry had to offer, I decided that I needed to make the products that I wanted to use and created s4e.
The s4e PHILOSOPHY is that everyone is sensitive in one way or another. My products are formulated to be gentle on your hair and skin because I know that if you slather a styling product on your hair, it’s ultimately going to end up making contact with your face while you roll around on your pillow all night! Are you sensitive about how you treat the environment? Me, too. That’s why my products are cruelty-free and vegan. I also fight hard to source recyclable and biodegradable materials for packaging.
